The Industries We Power.
Nine Industries. One Engineering Standard.
A transformer does not know which industry it serves. But the engineer who designs it does — and the design decisions that matter in a steel plant are not the same as those that matter in a hospital or a wind farm. Load profile, fault current, ambient environment, maintenance access, regulatory framework — all of these change the specification.
KLR Transformers supplies nine distinct industries. In each one, we apply the same engineering rigour and the same quality management system — but with a product range and specification capability shaped by the actual demands of that industry’s operating environment.

POWER GENERATION & UTILITIES
State electricity boards · DISCOMs · Transmission utilities · IPPs
State electricity boards, central transmission utilities, and independent power producers operate the backbone of India’s power infrastructure — and the transformers within it must perform without interruption across decades of continuous service. A transformer failure in a transmission substation is not a localised problem; it cascades across the network it serves.
KLR supplies power transformers up to 100 MVA, 132 kV class and BIS-certified distribution transformers from 250 kVA to 2500 kVA — designed to IS 2026 and IS 1180 standards, type-tested, and documented for utility procurement processes.

RENEWABLE ENERG
Solar PV · Wind farms · Battery storage · Grid interconnection
India’s renewable energy programme is the largest industrial procurement exercise in the country’s power sector. Utility-scale solar and wind projects require transformers that are designed for the specific electrical characteristics of inverter and turbine output — not standard grid frequency power. Harmonic-rich waveforms, cyclic loading, and partial load operation all affect transformer performance and lifespan in ways that only purpose-built products can address reliably.
KLR’s renewable energy transformer range covers solar inverter duty units up to 18 MVA, wind power transformers up to 6.5 MVA, and distribution transformers for grid evacuation infrastructure — all designed for the electrical profile of clean energy generation.

STEEL, METAL & MINING
Induction furnace · Arc furnace · Rolling mills · Smelting
Steel and metal production imposes the harshest electrical operating conditions of any industrial application. Induction furnaces draw high current at low voltage with rapid load cycling. Arc furnaces add asymmetric loading and repetitive short-circuit stresses on top of continuous thermal duty. A transformer not engineered specifically for furnace duty will not last — and transformer failure in a steel plant means furnace downtime, production loss, and costly emergency recovery.
KLR furnace transformers are built for this environment from the ground up — with heavy-duty copper windings, short-circuit reinforced structure, OLTC for precise power control, and OFAF cooling for continuous operation at rated load.
Products used in this industry

- Distribution Transformers — auxiliary and utilities supply within the plant
Value delivered:
- Continuous duty thermal design — OFAF cooling sized for rated output under production conditions
- Short-circuit reinforced winding structure — designed for repetitive fault forces without mechanical fatigue
- OLTC tap changer — precise power regulation across the full heat cycle

- AMC and field service available — KLR service team for steel plant operators across India
OIL, GAS & PETROCHEMICALS
Refineries · Petrochemical plants · Offshore · Pipeline infrastructure
Petrochemical and refinery environments combine continuous process operation with stringent safety requirements and demanding ambient conditions. Transformers in these installations often operate in hazardous area classifications, at high ambient temperatures, and under sustained heavy load — with maintenance access constrained by plant layout and process continuity requirements.
KLR supplies power and distribution transformers for refinery and petrochemical applications — engineered for the thermal and electrical demands of continuous process duty, with full IS and IEC compliance and documentation for plant safety cases.

INDUSTRIAL MANUFACTURING & PROCESS
Automotive · Cement · Textiles · Food processing · Chemical plants
Manufacturing plants with variable speed drives, large motor loads, and precision process equipment require transformers that handle harmonic loading, sustained high demand, and the occasional fault current — without degrading in performance or reliability. Unplanned transformer outages in a manufacturing environment stop production lines and trigger a cost chain that far exceeds the transformer’s own value.
KLR supplies distribution, inverter-duty, and dry-type transformers for general manufacturing applications — from a cement plant’s motor drives to an automotive manufacturer’s assembly line power supply.
Products used in this industry
- Distribution Transformers — plant incoming and process area supply

INFRASTRUCTURE, REAL ESTATE & COMMERCIAL
Townships · Commercial complexes · Hospitals · Airports · Hotels
Large commercial and infrastructure developments require power distribution solutions that are compact, safe, low-maintenance, and fast to deploy. For real estate developers, EPC contractors, and facility managers, the transformer is a project enabler — and delays in power availability directly affect project handover timelines and revenue.
KLR supplies compact substations for rapid deployment, dry-type transformers for indoor and fire-sensitive installation, and BIS-certified distribution transformers for utility connection — covering the full power distribution requirement of residential, commercial, and institutional projects.
Products used in this industry
- Power Transformers — plant incoming supply, up to 100 MVA

DATA CENTRES & CRITICAL FACILITIES
Hyperscale · Enterprise · Colocation · Mission-critical power
Data centres and mission-critical facilities define a distinct category of transformer application — where power quality, availability, and safety are simultaneously non-negotiable. Transformers in these environments must operate continuously at high load factors, handle non-linear UPS loading, and comply with fire safety standards that prohibit oil-filled equipment inside the building envelope.
KLR dry-type transformers are F1 fire classified, moisture resistant, and available with IP54 enclosures for humid or dusty environments. For external supply points, BIS-certified distribution transformers and compact substations provide fast, documented, utility-approved grid connections.

RAILWAYS & METRO
Traction substations · Metro rail · Station power · Railway electrification
Railway and metro rail applications demand transformers that combine high reliability with compact installation dimensions, resistance to vibration, and compliance with the specific electrical and safety standards that govern railway infrastructure. Traction power supply is a continuous duty application — and transformer outages in a metro network have immediate, visible, and politically sensitive operational consequences.

INTERNATIONAL EXPORT MARKETS
USA · Canada · Africa · ANSI/IEEE qualified supply
KLR Transformers exports to international markets not as an occasional transaction, but as a deliberate and documented capability. Our pad-mounted transformers are designed to ANSI/IEEE standards from the design stage — not adapted from an IS product — and are actively supplied to utility distribution networks and real estate developers in the USA, Canada, and Africa.
The ability to manufacture, test, certify, and export to North American standards from an Indian facility gives international project teams a cost-competitive, technically compliant supply option — with the same quality management and documentation standards they would expect from a domestic supplier.
Products used in this industry
- Pad Mounting Transformers — up to 10 MVA, 34.6 kV, ANSI/IEEE C57.12.26 compliant, USA/Canada/Africa supply
- Power Transformers — IEC 60076 compliant, available for international project supply
- Distribution Transformers — IS and IEC versions for African market supply
Value delivered:
- ANSI/IEEE qualified from design stage — not an IS product adapted for export; purpose-designed for North American markets
- Proven export track record — active supply to USA, Canada, and Africa; not a claimed capability
- Competitive lead times and pricing — Indian manufacturing with full export infrastructure provides cost advantage versus North American domestic suppliers
- Full export documentation package — test reports, certificates of origin, conformity declarations, and shipping documentation as required
